The Children in Care and Youth Detention Advice Service (CICAYDAS) was a free legal service that provided legal advice and information to people about the Royal Commission into the Child Protection and Youth Detention System in the Northern Territory. It operated from 1 November 2016 until 29 September 2017, helping more than 300 people make statements and tell their stories.
CICAYDAS was a Territory-wide service with lawyers and community engagement officers based in Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine. CICAYDAS travelled to remote communities to deliver community legal education and give legal advice.
CICAYDAS was set up by the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency and was funded by the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department.
